Price: $168.00
Item Number: 264-012-10
Manufacturer: Mitutoyo
Manufacturer Part No: 264-012-10
  • Mitutoyo's Input Tool is a simple 1-channel interface unit that allows measurement data to be easily sent to a PC-based spread sheet such as MS-Excel, SPSS, etc., in just one step, no software bridge required!!!
  • Multiple USB Input Tools (264-012-20) can be used to allow a multiple calipers to be used during data collection.
  • You have a choice of either PS/2 or USB Input Tools. The USB version allows connection directly to the USB port of your PC, no adapter required. Those who have the PS/2 version of the Input Tool and wish to connect it to a USB only computer can use an PS/2 to USB adapter.
  • Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Connects to most laptops via the mouse/external keyboard PS/2 port or USB port.
  • No battery or AC power is needed.
  • Measurements are automatically line-fed with every transmission so there is no need to manually group data. A simple macro in Excel will allow you to format the data just the way you like it. An optional Foot Pedal to further simplify data capture.
  • Works will all Paleo-Tech instruments which use Mitutoyo gages (Radiometer, Digital Linear Spreading Caliper, Hillson-Fitzgerald Dental Caliper, Mini-Osteometric Board)

How does it work?  Very simple, it converts your caliper's output into standard numerical text that your computer will record wherever the cursor is sitting.  Excel, Word, Text Edit, SAS, even the DOS prompt, wherever the cursor is sitting, that's where your measurement will be input and a carriage return executed.  There is no software to install.  There is no setup.  Simply plug the Input Tool into your USB port, Windows will install a generic keyboard driver, and off you go.  Your computer will think that the Input Tool is just another keyboard and record the data at the cursor location.

    What you need.
    1. An Input Tool
    2. A Mitutoyo Connecting Cable (see Related Items below)
    3. A Mitutoyo Caliper or Paleo-Tech instrument with a Mitutoyo compatible electronic scale (mini osteo board, radiometer, digital linear spreading caliper, etc)
    4. *Optional* Mitutoyo Foot Pedal for Input Tool

How to connect. Caliper => Connecting Cable => Input Tool => USB Port

The optional foot pedal connects with a 1/8" plug on the Input Tool.

How to use. Once all is connected, you input data by pressing a button on the caliper end of the connecting cable, on the Input Tool itself, or using the optional foot pedal.  Pressing any of these results in the data being recorded at the cursor location and a carriage return being executed.  That's it. Works just as if you were typing the numbers by hand as far as the computer is concerned.

NOTICE: The Mac PS/2 to USB Adapter work around no longer functions. For an unknown reason, the work around stopped working either from a software update to OSX or a hardware change in the USB to PS/2 Adapter.  I have no idea why, but I will continue to try and find a better solution to why we can't use Input Tools natively on a Mac.
**USB Input Tool WILL WORK with a Mac running Boot Camp**
